I used to use the Estee Lauder day créme for years and years before I actually knew anything about skincare. My skin was fine but overal a little on the oily side especially in the T-zone area. I thought that was just the way my skin was until I actually started to learn a thing or two about skin care. I am the kind of person that can get pretty set in her ways.. Like when I use some kind of product for a while, I find it hard to switch over to an other product, I feel attached to that product in some way. Maybe because I used it for so long.. Is that weird? I don’t know haha but that’s just the way I am I guess.
Oh moisturizers, another love story…
Knowledge Is Everything
Gaining knowledge about skin care products and their ingredients was one of the most life changing things for me. I know, that sounds dramatic, but I look at skin care so differently now compared to before. Before, I used to think that only the really expensive skin care products held the secrets of getting good skin. I thought I needed to spend a lot of money in order to have quality products that would really make a difference in my skin texture and overall look. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Actually getting to know more about skin care ingredients and what brands to stay away from, has helped me on so many levels. I now spend way less money on skin care products and my skin has never looked better.
It took me a while to get to know all the ingredients but I’ll introduce you to one of the most important one in skin care and that is; Hyaluronic Acid. This ingredient takes care of the moister in your skin, to keep it elastic and supple. I personally use every single one of these products in my Top 5, and have done for years now. My face is not oily anymore and it is a lot less dehydrated than before. You’d think, with a rather heavy cream I used to use, that my skin would be at least not dehydrated in the mornings or after a shower… But it would feel like my skin was pulling and screaming for moisture, all the time!
“Little did I know that Less is More. Even in skin care“
I did some research and it ended up being caused by the Estee Lauder cream having quite a lot of alcohol in it. side not: Skin care usually has some specific kind of alcohol in it, serving as a ‘delivery agent’, meaning that the ingredients that need to penetrate the skin are being delivered there by the alcohol. Some brands like to add a lot of alcohol in their product because it dehydrates the skin, therefor their costumer will use their products more and more frequently, resulting in them having to buy the same product more often. So you’d think by spending more money on skin care you’re investing in to your skin with quality products, but this is a total myth. My skin has never been better and my bank account is fuller. You don’t have to take my advice but I highly recommend you do haha. It will save you a lot of money and save you from an unbalanced complexation. In the product description I will incorporate ‘in bold’ for what skin type that particular moisturizer is most suitable for. Hopefully that’ll make it easier for you to find the best moisturizer for your skin!

My Top 5 Moisturizers + My Review
1. CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion
It comes as no surprise that this $11,49 moisturizer is holding the spot of Amazon’s #1 Best Seller. I fell in love with this super affordable and simple cream from the very first moment I tried it. At first I wasn’t too sure about it because it came in such a big pump thingy and it was so cheap. I didn’t think it could come close to any facial creams I’d ever used before. I was used to pretty pricey creams, in ecstatically looking jars and fancy smelling fragrances. I was thinking those were the only kind of skin care that would have the best ingredients for your skin. Little did I know that Less is More. Even in skin care. This unscented cream just has all the essentials to keep your skin balanced and nourished. It claims to be suitable for every skin type: Oily, Sensitive, Dry & Normal skin. But You’ll only know for sure when you try it. If it’s not a good fit for your skin type, you can use the rest on your body, so definitely a win/win.

2.Simple Water Boost Skin Quench Sleeping Cream
This Brand… I just LOOOVE! Like the brand name suggests; it just has a very Simple ingredient list. The ‘Less is More’ theory also applies to this little beauty that will… hold on to your hats.. only cost you $3,99! Like Come On! It is so nourishing and lives up to its name; ‘Water Boost’. It’s like a tall glass of water for your skin. Also a great non-greasy cream for dehydrated and oily skin. It’s a night cream, and those tend to be a little heavier than day creams. When I quit using the Estee Lauder cream, my skin was still pretty dehydrated, and using this during the night and sometimes, on dry or cold days, also during the day, has really rebalanced the moister levels in my skin. And you literally can’t lose with a $3,99 product right?! I will get mad if you don’t try this one haha… but I mean it, you’re robbing yourself from an amazing product and great hydrated skin in the mornings. Give it a try and PLEASE let me know what you think of it by commenting down below! I seriously would LOVE to know your personal experience with this product.
3. Neutrogena Hydro Boost
This $14,93 Day Cream holds a lot of resemblance with my number 2 ‘Simple night cream’. But the ‘Simple’ cream is from an English brand so it’s a little harder to get a hold of because it sometimes get’s sold out or is just simply not findable in stores. Findable.. is that a word.. I’m Dutch, so I have no idea haha but you know what I mean so I’m gonna roll with it:). For my USA babes I recommend this cream as a day cream when you’re experiencing some dry or dehydrated skin. Even if you’re just a lover of very nourishing but light watery kind of creams this is a great product for you! It’s oil-free and packs a ton load of Hyaluronic Acid which by now you know is the ingredient that hydrates the skin. For people struggling with Extra Dry skin I would recommend this Neutrogena Hydro Boost Oil-Free, Fragrance-Free, Non-Comedogenic & Dye-Free Face Cream. This is almost the same cream but specially created for Extra Dry skin. So definitely check this one out if that’s you.
4. ELF CBD Lightweight, Hydrating
This $12,00 Hemp-derived Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Infused cream was one of the first things I picked up at a Target when I moved to the US. It’s called the ‘Puff Puff Primer, Creamy, Conditioning cream because it doubles as a make-up primer. I’ve never bought a ‘primer’ so I’m not the most knowledgeable about those products. But if you are wearing make-up on the daily and feel like your skin gets dry after a few hours, This could be a very good substitute for your current primer. It is really nourishing and although it’s not called a night cream I typically use it at night for extra moister or when I’ve been swinging in chlorine water and my skin can use some revitalizing. It’s not heavy on the skin but I wouldn’t recommend it if your skin type is oily. I think this cream has a great healing ability, maybe it’s the Cannabis seed oil, I don’t know. But if you have regular breakouts and want your acne scars to melt away, definitely give this one a try. You can pick it up at any Target or order online on Amazon. Please let me know if you got this product and tell me you personal experience. I love to hear back from you and please also comment down below if you have any questions, prior or after buying a product.
5. CeraVe Light-weight Face Moisturizer with SPF 30
I use this light weight SPF every single day without fail. It is so light weight that I sometimes put it over my normal day cream because otherwise, for me, it feels like I’m wearing next to nothing.. on my face of course.. you little perve!;) But if you have rater oily skin or tend to get oily quickly in hot weather you can just use this day cream on tis own. Before getting more into skin care I hardly ever wore SPF. Only on pool and beach days I would make the effort of applying sunscreen. Nowadays I will not leave the house without it and I even carry one in my bag to reapply it throughout the day. I know, sounds excessive, But I want to look young forever so I’m dedicated!
