Skin Care Trends, Worth the Hype or Not?

On social media I often see skincare trends pop up and I wanted to list them all in one place for you. I also want to give my own personal opinion on whether I think the trend is worth the “hype” or not. You can click on the item’s image to go to Amazon and buy it if you want to try them out for yourself and see what all the fuss is about;)

On number one, maybe the one I’ve seen the most on my FYP on TikTok:

This “magic” shaving Powder

Magic Hair Removal Powder

Normal Strength

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

This Powder is sort of the OG of the Softsheen-Carson Magic Razorless Shaving Powder line. This stuff is actually designed for black men to prevent getting razor bumps when they shave their face. A lot of girls/women on TikTok are using the ‘ Extra Strength’ powder you’ll see when you look below this one. But to be honest with you, if you’ve never tried this stuff before you might not want to start with that one. Either start with this one, the ‘normal strength’, or even better the one for sensitive skin, the ‘Platinum’ Powder. This powder in the blue can is made for normal beards.. So I guess normal, soft straight-ish hair. Not too coarse. Keep reading and scroll down below for more variations. PLEASE don’t use it on the bikini area, your skin will burn.

On 2nd place we have the DIY face Masks.

Please, just, DON’T!

Why? Because rubbing food and oils (not made for skin) all over your face is never a good idea. It’s science. Skin care is made in a way to be able to actually pernitrate the skin and deliver the right kind of ingredients into your skin to have an actual affect on your skin. Food-like products contain larger molecules than the ones found in skin care products, so those masks you make are definitely not working and could even harm your skin. So don’t Use things like lemon or coffee grinds. They’re not made to put on skin, so, STOP IT! haha.

Anything CeraVe

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Anything from CeraVe I swear by and use on the daily! I’ll just list a few of my CeraVe Favorites:

CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30. My All-Time favorite sunscreen and great fit for sensitive skin. It’s, like the name suggest, ultra light & non-greasy. So if you have naturally oily skin this is an amazing sunscreen. I only get oily in my T-zone so I actually put on a light layer of my daily moisturizer (shocker- also from CeraVe) before putting on this SPF. Because it is so light and sinks into the skin really quickly, I like to add a little more day cream to it. But If you get oily skin easily or don’t like a thick cream, this SPF is the best fit for you. And for sensitive skin it’s the all-time greatest fit, if you ask me. I’ve already recommended this sunscreen to so many people, and they’ve all loved it to this day!

Cleanser for Dry Skin

The problem with dry skin is that a lot of times we don’t even necessarily have dry skin as much as we create it ourselves. How you ask? By using cleansers that are too stripping to our skin. A lot of cleansers  cleans a little too good. They strip our skin from all our natural oils and protection layer. This way you either end up with dry skin or overly oily skin because your skin is overcompensating. This Cleanser by CeraVe was a little too hydrating for me but I wanted to know what all the hype was about. So I tried it. I can see how people with dry skin love this cleanser because it leaves your skin with a soft hydrated layer on top of your skin after washing it of. But because I have combination skin and not really dry skin this, for me, was a little too much hydration haha.

Cleanser for Psoriasis

I don’t personally don’t suffer from this skin condition but I have family members who do. And they LOVE this Cleanser. It’s really gentle and perfect for their skin.

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion

It comes as no surprise that this $11,49 moisturizer is holding the spot of Amazon’s #1 Best Seller. I fell in love with this super affordable and simple cream from the very first moment I tried it. At first I wasn’t too sure about it because it came in such a big pump thingy and it was so cheap. I didn’t think it could come close to any facial creams I’d ever used before. I was used to pretty pricey creams, in ecstatically looking jars and fancy smelling fragrances. I was thinking those were the only kind of skin care that would have the best ingredients for your skin. Little did I know that Less is More. Even in skin care. This unscented cream just has all the essentials to keep your skin balanced and nourished. It claims to be suitable for every skin type: Oily, Sensitive, Dry & Normal skin. But You’ll only know for sure when you try it. If it’s not a good fit for your skin type, you can use the rest on your body, so definitely a win/win.

This Blood-Like Mask From The Ordinary

This blood-like serum/face mask is a very strong chemical peel. Meaning it bulldozes off any dead skin and dirt build-up in your pores. It’s very potent, so you should only use it for 10 minutes, once a week MAX! Don’t use too much either, just a light layer evenly spread out will do. If you’re wearing any fake tan, be prepared to loose all your colour haha, it’s a really strong chemical exfoliant. It helps with keeping your complexion even and lightens dark spots caused by either the sun and/or acne scarring. I only use it on my T-zone but you can use it according to what your skin needs. Just be aware of it’s powerful exfoliation and use with caution:) Happy Exfoliating!

My Opinion

I have used and loved most of these products, I don’t have psoriasis and I haven’t tried the shaving powder but see for yourself and try out these trends. They’re all really affordable so if you end up not liking any of the products it won’t set you back much. Hope this post has helped you find your next favorite product. Let me know if you’ve used any of these and what your experience with them is/was. I look forward to all of your stories!

Thank you

  1. Hi, this is a great article. As a black man, I’d like to test out Magic Hair Removal Powder Normal Strength to see whether it can truly prevent me from getting razor bumps when shaving my beards. When I shave my beards, I usually end up with a lot of razor bumps, which don’t look good. So I’m guessing this product will be quite beneficial to me.

    Thank you very much.

    • Hey Lionel!

Thank you so much for your message.

I am so happy to tell you that this product and all the other variants were actually made for people with darker skin and dark coarse hair. I definitely recommend to click on one of the products and read their description about the product, I think this Magic Powder is exactly what you need and will do exactly what you want it to do:)

Thank you again for leaving a comment. Please do let me know  if you’ve tried it and how you liked it, I genuinely want to know:)

      Have a great day Lionel!
