It makes me cringe now when I think about it, but it was a very normal thing to do for me when I was like 15/16 y.o.

Maybe You’re new to skin care products and are looking for the best way to implement it in your daily routine. And let’s vow now to not go to bed with our make up on ever again!

Yay, I’m so chuffed you found my website! I hope you’ll find some useful information and let me know in the comments if I’ve left you with any questions:)

The Best Skin Care Routine For Your Skin Type

Knowing your skin type is kind of necessary to make sure you’re using the right products in the right order. You can even drastically improve your skin by choosing the right products for your skin type. You might be thinking now; “K cool, but how do I figure out my skin type?” Well I’ve developed a neat little system for you to figure out your skin type right here, right now!

Let’s Go!

Find Out Your Skin Type

Through this little ‘scenario technique system’ we’re about to find out what type of skin you have. Just read the 7 scenarios below and when you recognize yourself in any of them, you’ve found your skin type. Voila! Just like that.

  1. Ok scenario one, you wake up with skin that feels tight and warm. This means you have Dehydrated Skin.
  2. Scenario two, you wake up with itchy and flaky skin. This means you have Dry Skin.
  3. Scenario three you wake up with Oily skin. hhm tough one.. You have Oily Skin.
  4. And there is Sensitive skin. Depending on what product you use you can wake up in any state. Wyoming, Colorado.. Jokes.. I’ll leave.. But usually people know when they have sensitive skin. When your skin reacts often on most products or turns red easily, or break out easily.
  5. And when your skin changes from time to time depending on the weather etc. Your cheeks are normally a little dry in the morning but your T-zone always feels a little more oily. Then my friend, I welcome you to the large community of, the Combination Skin club. T-shirt and Buttons on the left.
  6. And then there also are several skin conditions Like Rosacea and Psoriasis.
  7. Last but not least; you wake up with 3 more zits.. I have to confess.. I never really had acne so I’m not an expert in this area. But all my friends are swearing by Curology. I am NOT sponsored by them but I highly recommend checking them out if you feel like nothing is working and your acne is hard to get under control.

Ok, Now What?

Well, now you know your skin type, let’s find you the right skin care products and routine. I’ll give you a short recommendation with every skin type.

Dry to Very Dry Skin

To start, you want to find a gentle cleanser that’s not too stripping to your skin. What I mean by this is; that a lot of people aren’t aware of the damaging effects the wrong skin care product can have. A lot of cleansers might be too rough on your skin, stripping it from its natural protaction barrier and oils. This can either leave you with a dried out skin or overly oily skin. Sounds weird huh, but everyone’s skin reacts differently to products. When using an overly stripping cleanser some people’s skin tend to go in overdrive and will start to produce more oil to protect the skin. More on that later. In reference to dry skin you want to use gentle cleansers like these ones here. That green link will take you to a page where I give you examples of the right cleanser for your skin type. I have personally used every one of those cleansers so you can also read my experience with them. Plus they’re all very affordable which I always love:)

Your Best Skin Care Routine for Dry Skin

Cleanser – first

So now you have a gentle cleanser you want to stay away from any toners. They tend to dry out your skin even more because they often contain a lot of ‘alcohol’. This is meant to prepare your skin for any other products. But when your skin is already dry you don’t want to dry it out even more with toners or other products that have a high level of alcohol in it. You can check the label and it’s normally called; ‘Denatured Alcohol’. It’s not always a bad thing. For other skin types it’s harmless but for dry skin it can be very damaging.

Serum – Second

So after cleansing the skin and gently dabbing your face dry with a soft towel you want to go ahead with a serum. I recommend you use the Hyaluronic Acid Serum. If you click on that green link you’ll find my review of my all time favorite serums. I explain what they do and for whom it suits it the best. So you might want to check it out. Hyaluronic Acid is an amazing ingredient that you want to use from this day forward, until for ever! Especially when you suffer from Dry Skin. It makes your skin visibly plumper and feel soft + hydrated to the touch. And again very affordable, I would never tell you to buy expensive skin care products. When you know what to look for, you don’t need to spend a lot to get good skin.

Moisturizer/SPF – Third

Very, very important step in your skin care routine. The Moisturizer. Never ever skip this one please! I beg of you! When you have dry skin your lacking moisture so to rehydrate you need a nourishing day/night cream. It’ll be up to you on how heavy you like your creams to be. So you might have to try a few before you find the one that suits your skin the best. Luckily again for you, I only recommend really affordable products so if you have to try 2 or 3 moisturizers before you find the one for you, at least you’re not left broke. Same goes for Sunscreen. Wear it every day! Do it. Do it! It is the only way to slow down the natural aging process. Sun damage  is the number one cause of premature aging and dark spots. This Sunscreen is my absolute favorite and it’s very light and doesn’t leave you with a white cast or overly shiny finish.

Oily Skin

Your Best Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin

Cleanser – first

Also with oily skin you want to find a gentle cleanser that’s not too stripping to your skin. A lot of cleansers might be too rough on your skin, stripping it from its natural protaction barrier and oils. This can either leave you with a dried out skin or overly oily skin. When using an overly stripping cleanser some people’s skin tend to go in overdrive and will start to produce more oil to protect the skin. to rebalance your skin and reduce the oil production you want to use a hydrating cleanser. Have a look at that green link to find your cleanser.

Serum – Second

My T-zone get’s really oily so on that part of my face I love using the Niacinamide Serum. I use it every day, in the morning and in my night time routine. It reduces the oil production in your skin, PLUS it reduces the appearance of pores. Maybe it’s because my T-zone is more oily than the rest of my face but the pores on and around my nose are a lot bigger than on the rest of my face. I’ve seen a tremendous difference in the feel and look of my pores.

Moisturizer/SPF – Third

When your skin is rather oily you want to stay away from really heavy creams. Those might cause breakouts. I recommend you this light moisturizer, which is my all time favorite. Plus you can use this one not only on my face but also on my whole entire body. I used to use really expensive heavy day cream from  Estee Lauder. But this one was not only too heavy for my skin, leaving it way too oily and shiny. It also dehydrated my skin because apparently that cream contained a lot of that denatured alcohol. When I first started using this really simpel and cheap moisturizer I was skeptical. Now I will never use anything else haha.

Same goes for my favorite Sunscreen. I wear it every day! and you should too! Do it. Do it! It is the only way to slow down the natural aging process. Sun damage  is the number one cause of premature aging and dark spots. This Sunscreen is my absolute favorite and it’s very light and doesn’t leave you with a white cast or overly shiny finish.

Combination Skin

With combination skin, which I have, you can use the same products as mentioned above. For instance I use the Niacinamide only on my T-zone. I use these Cleansers but as of now the Naturium Niacinamide Cleanser is my favorite (you’ll find that one when you click on the green link in the word; “cleanser”). I use a light but nourishing Moisturizer. And when I feel my skin needs a little more moisture I use my Hyaluronic Acid Serum to rebalance the moisture levels in my skin. Sometimes I only have to use that serum a few days to correct it.

Did I Help?

I hope this article has helped you get an idea of how to take good care of your skin. Follow the same steps, regardless of what skin type you have. First a cleanser, then a serum, and always follow up with a moisturizer and an SPF 30. Or if you like you can choose a moisturizer with SPF in it. At the end of the day it’s a little journey you’ll have to take before you will find the best skin care products for your skin. That’s why I love the brands I use and recommend because they’re all affordable so you have the opportunity to try a few products out. It’s hard to know for sure if a certain skin care product will be the right one for your skin. Your skin will tell you if it likes it so pay close attention to it:)

Keep It Simple

This is the routine that I adhere to. 1. cleanser, 2 serum (I sometimes switch between serums when I feel my skin needs something else), 3 Moisturizer (I always add a few drops of self tanning serum), and I finish with a light, matte Sunscreen. For some this routine sounds simple  and minimalistic, for other’s it might sound like a lot of work. But this is my advice for any skin type, just switch out to the products that fir your skin the best and follow the same steps and you will have great skin for the rest of your life!
